She shivered when she got a good look at her brother. He was so far gone. He looked like he hadn’t showered in weeks, and he was thinner than she’d ever seen him.
A gasp tore from her when he went into a fit of rage and started tearing everything up. “No,” she cried and placed a hand over her mouth.
A thought took root in her head. She wondered if Travis would want her out after this. She couldn’t imagine where the idea had come from, but her insecurities that she’d tried to settle came back with a vengeance.
She went back to turning things on and cringed when she was able to hear their voices.
“When I find that fucking cunt of a sister, I’m going to carve her up.”
One of the four men chuckled. “Not before I get her. I’ve dreamed of the things I’d do to her when we found her.”
“Where the fuck is she?” Russ screamed.
“Mellow out, dude. She’s probably just hiding because we didn’t see her leave when the guy did. Remember? We were told he had a consultation to do this morning, and all
we had to do was watch for him, and he’d be out of the office for a while.”
“Then we need to tear this place apart,” Russ said with a growl.
“That’s what we’re doing, asshole,” the guy with the dirty t-shirt griped.
“No, fuckwad, you’re just lying there.”
“We’ve got all day. The dude doesn’t get home until after six,” the tall guy said and then continued with his destruction.
“What if someone finds the guy that looks after the door?” the t-shirt guy said.
“Are you sure you even killed him?” Russ asked Marcus.
“I hit him pretty hard on the head and then put him in the closet.”
“If you fucked up again, I’m going to cut you into little pieces,” Russ threatened Marcus.
Marcus stayed quiet, and Russ went back to breaking things.
She followed them as they went into one of the spare bedrooms and started in on that.
She tried not to think of Sam, praying that he was going to be okay.
After loading a few more guns, she kept up her search for a way to get a message out.
She started typing on one of the computers and got into Gmail. She quickly looked through to find his and only saw one with Travis’s name.
I’m at home. Russ is here with three men. They are destroying the place. I am in one of the safe rooms, so don’t worry about me. Get Sam help. He was hit in the head, and they put him in a closet in the lobby. Please hurry.
The minutes ticked by, and every one seemed longer than the last.
An hour went by before she saw Travis and a few other men sneak in through a door that was hidden in a closet. He’d mentioned it before but had never shown it to her.
Her heart palpitated in her chest as they quietly moved through the condo. Three of the assholes were still talking and breaking things in the office, just on the other side of the wall from her. She looked for Russ and saw him back in the master suite.
She knew Travis and the others could hear them because they weren’t trying to be quiet, thinking he wouldn’t be home for several more hours.
Travis stood in the doorway and trained his gun on the men.
“Gentlemen.” He got their attention.
“What the fuck?” the t-shirt one yelled.
