Brylee’s mouth dropped open when she looked at herself in the mirror. “Is that really me?”
Larkin and the other woman laughed.
“I just can’t believe it.”
Someone knocked on the door.
“Ladies, your bodyguards are here to take you to the restaurant. Are you ready?”
Larkin and Brylee looked at each other and grinned.
“Yes, we are,” they said. They waved to everyone on their way out and was helped into the car.
“You two look amazing,” Miller said as they drove off.
Brylee grinned. “Thank you. I feel amazing.” For the first time in her life, she felt beautiful. She just hoped Gage would think so, too.
They pulled up outside a fancy restaurant and were helped out of the car. The maître d’ immediately came for them.
“If you’ll follow me, your gentlemen are waiting for you.”
Chapter Sixteen
Gage ignored Darian’s smirk at his impatience. It had been way too long since he held Brylee in his arms, and he was getting antsy.
He heard Darian’s indrawn breath and followed his gaze. He scanned the area and couldn’t see anyone past the small group headed their way. It was only when they were a few feet away did Gage realize it was Brylee. He stood suddenly and grasped her shoulders, scanning her whole body for a long moment. His heart dropped when he finally saw the look and tears in her eyes.
“You don’t like it?” she asked.
He pulled her into his arms and hugged her tight.
“It just surprised me. I didn’t think you could get any more beautiful, and then here you are.”
She leaned back and seemed to try to smile. “Really?”
“Yes, baby, really.” He bent and placed a kiss on her lips. “I missed you today.”
She beamed up at him. “I missed you, too.”
Darian cleared his throat, getting their attention.
Gage helped her into a chair and pulled his as close to hers as possible and then draped his arm over the back of hers.
“Larkin, you look beautiful.”
“Thank you, Gage.”
Darian grinned at Brylee. “Did you have fun today, pumpkin?”
“I did. Thank you, Darian, and you,” she said and reached for Gage’s hand. “For a great day. It’s one I’ll never forget.”
Gage bent forward and kissed her lips. “It’s just one of many.”
A waiter stopped by their table. “What can I get the ladies to drink?”
Larkin turned to Darian. “Can I have a Shirly Temple?”
“Absolutely. Would you like one, too, Brylee, if it’s okay with Gage?”
