But he figured it was something you did for the people you loved.
There had been problems, of course. More between him and Kinley than him and Sloan. He guessed they knew each other’s quirks. But he and Kinley had to get used to each other. But when he went too far, she didn’t retreat, didn’t sulk, she stood toe-to-toe with him and had it out.
And fuck if he didn’t find that sexy as hell.
“Flattery is not going to work!”
“Is there something wrong?” he asked mildly. He knew exactly what was wrong. She held a letter in her hand, and he was pretty sure he knew what it said.
“You paid off my debts.” Her hands went to her hips, and she glared at him.
God, she was magnificent. She still had a few moments of insecurity about her body, but he and Sloan were working on it.
He stood and moved towards her. “Yes, I did.”
“I told you not to.”
He nodded calmly. “You did.”
“Then why didn’t you listen to me?”
“Because there is no way I’m having my woman stressing over money when I have enough to pay those damn bills a thousand times over.”
“That’s not the point.” She stomped her foot.
Yep, seriously cute.
He cupped her face and waited for her to calm slightly then leaning in, he kissed her lightly. “It is exactly the point. I love you, Kinley.” He looked over as Sloan joined them, moving up behind Kinley so she was between them, where she belonged. “And no matter what, I’m always going to do whatever I can to ease your stress, to make you happy, to be everything I can for you. So, yeah, I paid the bills and I’m not apologizing for it. Can you say you wouldn’t do the same for me?”
She tried to hold onto her temper. But then she deflated with a growl. “Damn it. I hate when you make sense.”
He chuckled and leaned in and kissed her. “So, am I forgiven?”
She tapped her lip thoughtfully. “Hmm, I don’t know, you might need to make it up to me.”
He laughed. “I think I can do that. Yes, I can definitely do that.”
