She grinned. “The very best.”
“Enough of this shit. Who’s up for a game of pool?” Hunter stood, rubbing his hands together.
The others nodded and followed him into the house.
“Tiny has been teaching me,” she said as she watched Hunter set up the table. “He says I’m a natural.”
“That so?” Hunter raised an eyebrow. “Care to make things interesting?”
“How would I do that?”
“He means would you like to make a bet,” Cady said. “Hunter, she’s learning.”
“I’ll go easy on her,” Hunter protested.
“Oh, you wish to make a bet? I have never gambled before. But I suppose there is some merit in betting on your own skill.”
“Five dollar bets it is,” Jaron said. Everyone placed a bet and Hunter gave her the chalk and a cue.
“You break.”
Several minutes later, Reagan stood back and looked at the table in satisfaction. Suddenly aware of the silence, she stared around. “What is it? Did I do it wrong?”
Grinning widely, Tiny pulled her close and kissed her. “Nope. You did it right.”
“Then why is everyone staring at me?” she whispered.
“You should spank her for that,” Hunter growled.
What?
Tiny turned to his boss. “For what? Beating you?”
“For lying about how experienced she was. Damn it, I didn’t even get to hit a ball. She thrashed me. I’ve never seen someone play like that.”
“Reagan didn’t lie. She just learned to play.”
Hunter looked close to tears. He seemed to take this very seriously.
“Hunter’s considered a good player,” Tiny whispered.
She grimaced. “Have I hurt his feelings? Do I apologize?” Things had been going so well. Should she have let him win?
“You haven’t hurt my feelings, damn it,” Hunter practically pouted. “You won. Fair and square.”
His gaze turned intense, and a strange look crossed his face.
“What is going on? Why is he looking at me like that?” she asked Tiny.
“That’s his thinking face,” Cady told her.
The others groaned.
“Nothing good happens when he gets that face,” Gray said.
“Reagan, you are going to make me a very happy man.”
Cady placed her hands on her hips. “Dude, I’m right here. Shouldn’t you be saying that to me?”
