Then unable to help himself, he deepened the kiss. “You’re my kryptonite.”
“Didn’t peg you as a Superman fan,” she murmured back.
“I’m not really. I always thought Batman was way cooler. Especially in the LEGO movies.”
She pulled back and laughed. “Daddy, you watched the LEGO movies?”
“LEGO Batman is badass.”
She giggled harder.
“What’s so funny?”
“I’m not sure that real life badasses are supposed to call LEGO characters badasses.”
“Not all LEGO characters, just Batman. I mean, no one is going to call Emmett a baddass. That’s just stupid.”
He hid his grin as her laughter filled the room. It felt good to make her smile
“So, you think I’m a badass, huh?” he asked as he carried her into the bathroom.
“Maybe I did before I knew about this love affair you’re having with LEGO Batman.”
He sniffed. “That doesn’t make me less of a badass. Although don’t tell the other baddasses, I might get kicked out of the club.”
“Ooh, there’s a club? I’d like to be a fly on the wall for one of those meetings.” She waved her hand in front of her face as though cooling herself.
He narrowed his gaze. “I’m the only badass you’re allowed to get flushed over.”
“Oh, of course, Daddy. And don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone about your secret love of LEGO Batman. Of course, my silence comes with a price.”
“Oh, and what would that be?”
“Hmm.” She tapped her chin. “Two scoops of ice cream every night.”
“No deal.”
“Hey, you could have at least thought about it!”
“Nope. Was never going to work, princess. Ice cream is a treat, when you’ve been good. Not to be used for blackmail.”
As he spoke, he placed her on the toilet. He turned without a word and walked to the door.
“I’ll come back in a minute.” He shut the door behind him.
He walked back into the bedroom and stripped off the Sportsheet then pulled back the bed covers. Then he turned back to knock lightly on the bathroom door. He didn’t much like having closed doors between them. There was something in him that didn’t like barriers of any kind. Maybe because she had so many emotional shields. But it was more likely about him. His woman wouldn’t be allowed any secrets, any barriers that held him back from her. He knew that wasn’t entirely fair considering he’d always have things he couldn’t divulge. But that was part of what he needed from her.
But for the moment he held back that side of himself. He couldn’t risk scaring her off. For now, he was concentrating on fulfilling her needs.
Showing her that he could be everything for her.
“Come in.”
He picked her up off the toilet without a word and set her on the counter so she could wash her hands. Together they brushed their teeth before he carried her back to bed and got them both settled in what had become their favorite position to sleep in, with him spooning her.
“Tell me about Reyes?” she asked.
He tensed then forced himself to relax. He’d told her he would tell her anything she wanted to know, that he was allowed to tell her.
