“Fuck’s sake,” I grunt, slamming the phone down. That’s the last time I’ll be using that band. Last week, they were late getting on stage, which I can understand, somewhat. But cancelling on a Thursday when they’re set to fucking play tomorrow night, that shit is not going to fly.

“What’s wrong?” my woman says, walking into the office. We decided tonight we’d see each other outside of work, which is why I’m pissed as hell with this band bullshit.

“The band just cancelled, but I’m not going to worry about it tonight. I’ll come in tomorrow and find someone last minute, or I’ll just make a deejay kind of night.” Lily is already making her way towards me. I scoot my chair out, letting her know I want her in my lap.

“You can handle it tonight if you need to. I don’t mind.” Lily sits in my lap, her legs hanging off the side of the chair, arms wrapping around my neck.

“Nope, we’re going out tonight, and then we’ll end up at my place or yours,” I tell her.

“We can stay at your place. You have the animals, plus I don’t have to get up early tomorrow.”

“I like that idea.” My lips meet hers, giving her a soft kiss, knowing if I take it deeper, she’ll end up on top of my desk, naked, writhing in pleasure as my cock tunnels in and out of her tight heat.

“Oh, what about Devil in the Highway? I bet they’d come in last minute,” Lily says gleefully as our kiss ends.

“I’m not sure why I didn’t think of that. Fucking intelligent and a knockout in the beauty department. Fucking love it, honey.”

“Well, I try. Can’t always have the best of both though.” She winks, hops off my lap, and says, “Make the call, then we’ll leave. Maybe we can sleep in tomorrow.”

“Oh, that will most definitely be happening, partly because we won’t be getting any sleep after we get home.” If I had my way, we’d be skipping going out tonight and instead would be going right back to my place, cooking dinner together, and we’d both be naked shortly after.

“I can’t wait. I’m going to read my book while you make your call. Take your time.” Lily was talking to me about a book she picked up earlier this week when she stopped by a used bookstore. Apparently, her hobby when she isn’t working is reading suspense and thriller novels. There goes that being smart thing again. My spare time is working at the ranch, but even then, when it’s long past dark, the only place you’ll find me is in front of the television watching college baseball.

Once I see Lily is situated and comfortable on the leather couch I have in my office, I pick up the phone and call Tyler, the lead singer of the band. I’m not sure why I didn’t think of him, but I’m in luck when he lets me know they’re free tomorrow night. Hell, if Lily has spare time, she could help me out here with the marketing side of things. If not, I’m seriously going to have to think about hiring it out. There’s only so much of this shit that I can stand.

I watch Lily. She’s enraptured by her book. Soft giggles escape her every now and then, even though I know this book is on more of the mystery side of things.

Her voice is soft when she says, “What are you smiling at?”

“You, and how amazing you are.” My words are the God’s honest truth.

“I do believe that we’re both pretty damn amazing, but I am hungry, so if you’re all done, think you can take a woman to get some food? Possibly a place that serves chips and salsa?” She’s obsessed with any type of Mexican food, I swear.

“I think I can manage that. You park your car in the back?”

“Yep, I can get it tomorrow before heading to work for a few hours.” Seems my woman had this planned already.

“Perfect. Let’s go get you some food before you wither away or do the worst thing ever, get hangry,” I joke. Lily got like that the other day when she couldn’t leave work to get lunch, so I brought it to her, and she was about to gnaw off her arm—her words, not mine.

“Yes, let’s not have that happen again. It wasn’t one of my best days, truth be told.” I wrap my arm around her, loving the feel of having her in my arms.

“Doesn’t matter if it’s a good day or a bad day, I’ll be there every day in between.” I kiss the crown of her head while we walk together to my truck.

Chapter Fourteen

Lily

“Well, this might get awkward,” I mumble to Beau as we walk into the restaurant. We went outside of Cherry Falls, and I was not expecting it either, but Beau mentioned there was a Mexican cantina in the town beside us, which is why we’re here.
