“I don’t know, there’s that kid I told you about.”
“Which one Daniel?”
“You know, the son of the head of obstetrics at the hospital. He’s the right age too, just turned seventeen.”
“Didn’t you say that boy was a little off?”
“Just growing pains, most teenage boys act like that.” Dad shrugged his shoulders.
“I don’t like him, when I ran him he already had a record.”
“What? I didn’t know that, a record for what?”
“He and some friends of his thought it would be fun to take potshots at cars down by the overpass.”
“Well sure, he might’ve done that sorta thing when he was younger but…
“That was last summer.”
“Who’re y’all talking about?”
“Oh nothing, it’s just that we know you don’t like Todd, so we were trying to come up with some suitable young men in the area. You know our girls’ going to be dating soon she’s at that age.”
“Dad are you bent? Caitiebear’s been dating the same boy since she was thirteen. Who told you she’s going to be interested in some asshole criminal kid?”
“Well I didn’t know the boy was a criminal did I? And besides, if she dates someone local then maybe she’d forget about going away to college and we can just keep her home with us. Isn’t that what you wanted?” I wasn’t sure if the look he gave me could be trusted.
He might be high enough to really believe the shit he was saying and the way Drake and Cy were nodding their heads I was inclined to believe that he wasn’t pulling a fast one on me. Especially Drake, since those two never agree on shit.
“Well if that kid’s a bust I can always keep an eye out. There are plenty of respectable families hereabouts and I know most if not all of them. I’ll just try to do better next time. I’d never have expected Dr. Boyce’s son to be such a delinquent. You think you know people.”
“What the hell. Dad, my kid doesn’t need anyone choosing someone for her to like, she’ll like who the hell she wants to. And just so you know, my daughter wants to go to Wharton, it’s the top business school in the country and one of the highest if not the highest ranked in the world, the fuck are you saying?”
“Well Colt I’m just trying to help. You said…”
“I know what I said old man.” Fuck-fuck-fuck.
KAT
“How did it go?” I met my dad, father in law, and Cy-Cy as soon as they came in from the garage. We all looked around behind them to make sure my clueless husband wasn’t snooping but he was standing over his bike looking like he was lost.
Daniel put his thumb and forefinger together, “piece of cake.”
“Great, now for part two. You guys staying?”
“Nope, gotta run. I gotta fix the door on the guest bathroom for your mother in law. Damn woman’s always finding something for me to do since I retired.”
I got a kiss on the forehead from all three before they tramped out the door. No doubt I’ll be getting a call from momma-Elena any minute to get them out of her hair. Tomorrow they’ll all be here for Sunday dinner along with Stacey and Em with their Annalisa.
Carol won’t be home for a few weeks yet and then the whole family will be turned upside down because she always has some new thing for all of us to try together, which is going to make my husband nuts and the rest of us will have to pay.
I don’t know what he’s complaining about, she’s taught me a lot of great stuff over the years. He sure do reap the benefits from the erotic Yoga she taught me that she’d learned somewhere in the far east.
Oh hell, why did I think of that? She’d also taught her mother, mine and Stacey the same thing. I do not need more sex stories from my mother and mother in law thank you.
Stace and I had decided that if she comes back with any goodies this time she’s going to have to keep them just between us girls. Though I’m happy that my parents got back together all those years ago, I’m beyond embarrassed at the way my mom has changed.
Elena and Char and that whole gang are a bad influence. Even Colt says that she’s not the same Tina he met in Arizona. She smokes weed, tells bawdy stories and is giving my dad fits every other day with the stuff the lot of them get up to on a weekly basis.
I ran back upstairs to grab my phone. I’d just seen Todd come in from wherever he’d gone with Mancini. I’m guessing it was around to his place to get his jeep that was dropped off earlier.
“Heather, it’s time. Give it five minutes and make that call.” I hung up with Heather Henderson and went back downstairs with a pep in my step. Colton Lyon is not the only one who can scheme.
