She reached down to claw at his shoulders as pleasure rolled over her. It was more than she could process and she had to close her eyes again. She reached for Rafe, needing some sort of comfort after that storm of pleasure.
He pulled her into his arms and rocked her back and forth. “Now I feel that we are engaged. That you and I are going to be okay no matter what else happens in the world.”
She shivered at his words and knew that she’d found the one man she’d never realized she’d been searching for. A man who could be her partner and respect her independence. The kind of man who’d be a good father and build a family with her.
“I’ve been meaning to ask you something,” she said.
“What is it?”
“What did you want to be as a little boy? I never got to ask you,” she said. She wondered about the man he’d become. Would his dreams have been to be a sports star or business tycoon? Well, he’d become that. Surely, he hadn’t wanted to be king.
“I wanted to be your man,” he said.
She punched him the shoulder. “Stop making fun.”
“I didn’t know that you would be the woman, Emily, but I always wanted a family of my own. The chance to have someone who was always by my side.”
“Well, you’ve got that,” she said, kissing him.
