She smiles wide, then makes an obnoxious gagging noise because I know she doesn’t want to hear details. "How's it going between you two? Engaged yet?"
I suck in a deep breath as she watches me. There's no way I can hide how I feel when she's right in front of me like this. "I...well. It's going amazing. But that’s kinda the problem."
She furrows her brows. "How is that a problem? Honestly, you both needed to get laid, and I’m glad you two decided to finally fuck it out."
I snort, remembering our recent conversation about how he used to drive me crazy. "It’s not so much a problem because the sex is…I’ll spare you the intimate details, but it’s amazing. I’ve never felt the kind of connection during sex like I do with him. But now the issue is my heart.” I suck in a breath as I think of my next words. “I'm confused because I can’t catch feelings and—"
"But you are,” she says. “And you don't know where this will lead, and you’re getting all in your head about it."
I grin. "Yes, exactly."
I move to the vanity and pull my hair out of the towel, then brush it.
"Honestly, you can't cross out being in a genuine relationship with him. And maybe he used his job as an excuse in his previous relationships because he wasn’t ready for something so serious. He’s changed, and even if he doesn’t see that, I do,” she explains. “Plus, I selfishly want the two of you to fall madly in love, get married, and have babies so our kids can be cousins.”
I burst out laughing, but it warms my heart. That sounds amazing even though it's a really far-fetched reality.
“Honestly, I think he has a lot to work through, and he hasn't found the right woman yet. But you're exactly what he needs in life, Kendall. He's always had a thing for you even though he’d never admit it. I love my brother, but when it comes to his family, he’s a horrible liar."
Her words have my heart racing as I grab my makeup bag. I start with moisturizer, then foundation. "You could be right. I just don't want to get hurt," I admit as I continue my routine with powder, bronzer, and blush.
"If he hurts you, I'll castrate him, and I’m pretty sure he knows that. That's probably why he always stayed away from you in the first place. Also, you and I both know it's impossible to fuck without feelings when they were there first. Neither of you is fooling me. You're both putting on an act. Convince me otherwise." She stands and brings me with her to the bar top.
"See, this is exactly why I called you. You make me feel better when my thoughts are trying to suffocate me," I breathe out, relieved.
"When Eli and I first got together, I had no idea where it would lead, but I knew I had feelings for him. And sometimes, you just have to let your heart lead instead of your head. You and my brother are meant to be together, but only when you’re both ready. Plus, you know the power of the pussy." She flashes a cheeky grin, and I snort.
"Damn right. Trust me when I say he will never forget being with me."
She immediately shakes her head. "No details. For the love of God."
"Okay, okay, I'll spare you," I mock. "How's the last-minute wedding stuff going?"
"Everything is officially done, just dealing with anxiety that everyone is going to do what they're supposed to. I'm also trying to avoid chocolate, but Eli found my secret stash of Twix. He took them and hid it."
I laugh. "Surprised you didn’t murder him for that.”
“Well technically, I told him weeks ago to make sure I didn’t fall off the chocolate wagon. Now the honeymoon? That’s a different story. When you go to restock, I want all the chocolate, got it?”
Smiling, I say, “You got it. That skintight dress is going to be painted on you, and you hardly had room to breathe.”
"Guess I shouldn't mention I found an entire bag of Kit Kats and ate them today." She lets out a contagious laugh, and I join in. Cami’s naturally thin, and no amount of sweets will make her gain a pound anyway. “I don’t know why I’m stress eating so much, but the anxiety of everything coming together is overwhelming."
"Well it’s not like you’re having the biggest wedding of the season or anything,” I tease. “Don’t worry. It’s going to be perfect, and fingers crossed Ryan and I actually get to leave before the big day."
“Don’t even say that!” Cami groans. “I will send Eli to plow you out himself if it gets to that point. Speaking of," she says, clearing a notification. "I need to call him back."
