I lean toward her. “This… me and you… is not a bad idea. If you ask me, it’s perfect. You’re perfect.”
She looks incredulous and loudly whispers to me, “Look at this place. Look at you. Then look at me. This isn’t right. I’m going to go.”
I pull her toward me with one hand and cup her cheek with the other. “I am looking at you, just like every other man in the restaurant has been since you got here. And I have to tell you, I’ve never been attracted to anyone in my whole entire life like I am to you. Ignore all of them,” I tell her, tipping my head to the people behind her now. “Act like it’s just you and me.”
Her face softens, but I can tell she’s still unsure.
“Dinner. Just have dinner with me, then I’ll take you home.”
Finally, she nods. “So do you mind if I order for you? Or do you want to order for yourself?”
She looks a little relieved when she answers. “Yes, if you don’t mind, can you order for me?”
The waiter walks up to the table and I place our order. “Two hamburgers, French fries and two sweet teas.”
The waiter doesn’t even flinch. “Yes sir. It will be up shortly.” He gathers the menus from the table and walks away.
Serenity leans across the table. “I looked at the menu. They don’t have hamburgers here.”
I shrug my shoulders. I knew the place was freaking her out so I ordered “normal” food to try and calm her nerves and from the smile on her face, it seems to have worked.
From that point on, she seems to relax. I get her talking about some of the unbelievable things she’s witnessed as a waitress and she loosens up and we have a great time. I love her sexy voice, her full lips, and the charisma she has when telling a story.
Just sitting here watching her makes this a good night. Already I’m dreading for it to end.

Serenity
He’s a perfect gentleman and has gone out of his way to make me comfortable. When we finished eating, he put his arm around me and walked me out to his car, ignoring all the photographers.
Once I gave him my address, he grabbed on to my hand and has held it since then. I look at our joined hands resting on the console and then up at him. “Why me?” I ask him before I can think better of it.
I can see his forehead crease even in the darkness of the car. When he gets to a red light, he turns toward me. “What do you mean?”
It was easier when he wasn’t looking at me. Now I can feel myself shrinking from him.
He must sense it because he squeezes my hand and faces the road, hitting the gas when the light changes. “I don’t understand the question. What do you mean why you?”
I shake my head. Really, do I have to spell it out for him? “Well, I mean, I saw you last night. Why aren’t you with any of the sexy, leggy supermodels from the party?”
He’s calm, running his thumb across mine. “I never hit on any of those women.”
“I know. I watched you.” I should be embarrassed to admit it, but it seems to make him happy because he smiles.
There’s a cockiness about him, but he’s also showing a little vulnerability when he asks, “You were watching me?”
I playfully pat his arm. “Yeah, me and every other woman at the party.” And even though the GPS is announcing we’re close, I point to my house. “That’s mine. Second house on the right.”
He pulls in, turns off his car, opens his mouth, closes it, and then tells me, “Stay right there.”
I watch as he walks around the front of the car and then opens the door for me. He helps me out of my seat, shuts the door and then leans me against it. He has one hand on each side of me, caging me in. His features are set, determined, like he’s got something on his mind. “So I only want to say it once. You’re right, there were women hitting on me last night. I won’t lie to you. Once I became a professional baseball player, women started throwing themselves at me, and yes, I could have taken one of them home with me. But I don’t want that. I have my mind set on the little curvy, sassy waitress that drives me crazy just with the stubborn tilt of her chin.”
I want to believe him, and when he takes a step closer to me, there’s no doubting his desire for me. I can feel it pressed into my belly. “But…”
He shakes his head, bending down until his lips are only a breath from mine. “There’s no buts. You, Serenity, are more extraordinary than I could ever imagine.” When his lips finally touch mine, it’s like all time has stopped. He cups my face, his finger stroking my cheek as he makes love to my mouth. When he pulls away, it’s only long enough for him to attach his lips to my neck. The moan comes out of me before I can stop it, but the way he’s touching me sets my whole body on fire.
